Maritávora, a Family-Owned Winery since 1870, produces Port and Douro DOC, white and red wines. Our vineyards are located in the upper Douro, in the district of Freixo de Espada-à-Cinta, Portugal, within the International Douro Natural Park. The vineyards, located at an altitude of 500 meters occupy an area of about 14 hectares (35 acres). The red vineyards are between 15 and 60 years old. An old white vineyard is more than 100 years old. The vines are from typical Douro varieties. The yields are low and fruit-cluster thinning is used regularly. Most of the work, from the pruning to harvest, is performed manually. Respect for the environment is a constant for decades. All our vineyards are Organic Certified. Our winemaker, Jorge Serôdio Borges, is one of the most recognized Portuguese winemakers.
