The Canadian Organic Regime came into effect on June 30, 2009. All certification bodies operating inside Canada or with exports to Canada must be assessed by an approved accreditation body or come under a country to country equivalence agreement. 24 bodies are currently under IOAS surveillance.

The IOAS is a non-profit organisation which was established in 1997 whose sole aim is the continued growth of the organic market by providing a transparent and respected system of assessment of competence of certification bodies against nationally and internationally-agreed standards.
We are committed to providing a quality service of high integrity at the lowest possible costs to certification bodies and work all over the world providing accreditation, equivalence assessment, training and information services .
We currently assess certification bodies with activity in: Organic agriculture and aquaculture, Inputs for organic agriculture, Sustainable agriculture, sustainable fisheries, Social justice, Fair trade, Content claims, Recycled content, Organic and natural cosmetics, Ingredients for organic and natural cosmetics, Inputs for organic textiles, Organic textiles.

The IOAS also works in partnership with the American National Standards Institute for a range of food safety schemes including GlobalGAP.
We are a member of ISEAL, the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation and are designated by the CFIA as a Conformity Verification Body under the Canada Organic Regime.
