Having converted to organic farming in 1969 this family run-business is one of the pioneers of organic practices in the Lot-&-Garonne Region. it builds up its processing business and 1982 it launched its commercial network in order to sell the products of the very first organic farmers.
Within the very heart of the Agen prune production area in Lot-&-Garonne, they were granted the "Pruneaux d'Agen" protected geographical Indication (PGI).
Lou Prunel continues to cultivate the family orchards where they grow the Ente variety of plums and to process the fruits. For several years, with this method and restraint, the company was able to extend its range to other pasteurized soft fruits, while maintaining the same quality and selection standards. It also enlarge its range to organic dried fruits and organic prune spreads.
Lou Prunel encourages local prune producers. It provides technical support, financial support and sustainable support.
Lou Prunel has nine permanent employes and brings together around twenty organic farmers working 150 hectares of plum orchards.
