Maquita is an organization from Social and Solidarity Economy which under the principles of Fair Trade promotes productive, associative and commercial ventures with more than 800 communities from Ecuador. It works in 18 provinces from Ecuador, especially in sectors with high rates of poverty and exclusion, with a territorial incidence of 219,052 participants in social and solidarity economy circuits, of which 46% correspond to women.
During these years, associative, productive and commercial ventures have been promoted through the development of skills of 56,653 people, facilitating their access to technical-economic information to improve their position and condition constructing equitable relations in their family, organization and community; with the main objective of improving their quality of life.
The solidary commercial strategy seeks to create trade relations based on values, principles and social practices in order to strengthen people and promote sustainable endogenous development.
Within this scope, Maquita has created its own brand "Maquita" which is part of its three social enterprises:
Maquita AGRO, exporter of cocoa beans and semifinished.
Maquita PRODUCTOS, which sells crafts, quinoa, panela, palm hearts, cereals and grains, among others, as well as processed foods such as chocolates, jams, energy bars.
Maquita TURISMO is a receptive tourism operator that promotes and articulates a network of Community Tourist Centers (CTC's) nationwide.
The main export markets are: Germany, Holland, France, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Mexico and Singapore. Its commitment with local people has allow to certified organic production, fair trade standards, quality standards as HACCP, environmental standards as Rainforest Alliance, among others, benefits that mainly favors the producing families.
