Himalayan Bio Trade Pvt. Ltd (HBTL) established in 2000, is a natural products manufacturing and marketing company based in Kathmandu. About 25% of HBTL’s shareholders are community enterprises that supply the processed and semi-processed products to HBTL. HBTL and its community enterprises consortium have also received FSC, Organic, For Life- Social Responsibility and Wildlife friendly certifications.
HBTL’s mission is to become a leading natural product company in the Himalayan region to identify, extract, transform, promote and deliver the highest quality natural products in a sustainable and ethical manner to domestic and global markets. HBTL will also demonstrate itself as a model company to care for the environment and create employment opportunities to some of the world’s poorest communities living in the remote Himalayan region.

HBTL directly works with the rural producer groups, cooperatives and entrepreneurs for the feasibility to set up enterprises, technology transfer, quality management, obtaining certifications, back up support in pre and post operation and buy back the products produced by them. Through its operations in the rural parts of Nepal, HBTL has been creating income and employment opportunities to over 15,000 people in which almost 90% of them are woman and indigenous community groups involved in the product value chain. With the income, they are able to fulfill the basic household’s requirement, send children to school, access to health care, diversify the additional income generations and also save money in cooperatives ensuring a better future.
HBTL is now working in 35 districts of Nepal directly with more than 150 distilleries, 10 handmade paper enterprises and 20 expellers with the annual production of about 30 tons of essential oils, 10,00,000 sheets of handmade paper, 125 tons of vegetable butters and oils and over 50 tons of raw herbs.
Currently, HBTL is marketing the products in domestic market and in more than 110 companies in Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and USA.
