Wikana – my favourite biscuit
Wikana is a traditional company of the German pastry products industry based in Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Since 1906 it has been all about sweets: from the chocolate production in the first years until the different biscuit variations today.
The recipe of success: the combination of tradition, innovation and sustainability. The strategy is focused on quality. We only use selected raw materials that satisfy our high quality requirements. In order to avoid long hauls and to support the regional efficiency, we source main raw materials from the local area.
Besides classic biscuits Wikana has been producing Organic products since 2001. Fairtrade products have been in Wikana’s assortment since 2008. In August 2014, two vegan products (in Organic and Fairtrade quality) completed the sustainable products range: the Quinoa Cocoa Biscuit with Chocolate Pieces as well as the Sandwich Biscuit with Quinoa and Dark Cocoa Cream.
Sustained taste is an important trend which is why Wikana is working consistently on the development of its sustainability strategy. Currently, Wikana is switching its purchase to UTZ-certified cocoa and RSPO-certified palm fat. In the course of 2015, the whole product range will be produced with cocoa and palm fat from sustained farming. Within the production department, measures for energy saving and the use of renewable energy are consistently developed.
Wikana has become a strong biscuit brand within the German trade and is expanding its market presence as well as its export business. Whether the Classic Biscuits like “Othello” Cocoa Biscuit, “Hansa” Shortbread Biscuit or the “Butter Biscuit” with Martin Luther's Rose embossing as well as specialties like “Lutherbrodt” or “Kalter Hund” or our different Christmas Biscuits – these delicacies from Lutherstadt Wittenberg have been a relish for a lot of consumers since their childhood.
