BIOFACH 2017

The Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI) is the German Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants. It is both a federal research institute and a higher federal authority. While its headquarters are located in Quedlinburg (Saxony-Anhalt) our 1,200 staff members, work in 16 specialized subinstitutes at 10 different locations throughout Germany. The JKI provides currently research facilities and service units, such as library, data processing or administration in Braunschweig, Berlin, Kleinmachnow, Darmstadt, Dresden, Dossenheim, Groß Lüsewitz, Münster and Siebeldingen.

At the BioFach fair we show our research for the biofarming sector. The presentation of our research highlights changes from year to year. Before each consumable organic product stands a producer such as a farmer, a vine-grower or a gardening firm. For them and often together with them we develop new plant protection strategies, do research on antagonists or determine the efficiency of plant protection products of natural origin.

JKI activities are centred on cultivated plants as such. The Institute does research in the fields of plant genetics, cultivation of crops, plant nutrition, soil science, plant protection and plant health. Its broad competence enables the JKI to develop holistic concepts for crop cultivation as a whole, ranging from crop production to plant care.
