At Venta La Vega – Territorio Ecológico, we firmly believe in two concepts: the town of Almansa and its wines. Almansa wines are great wines and are not just wines for adding colour or improving wines from other latitudes.
The estate which gave birth our wines, Venta La Vega, was found on the Royal Way which runs from Madrid to Valencia and Alicante belong to the mountainous accident called Mugrón. This mountain, that forms part of the interesting geographical transition of the land and that is in charge of restraining in many cases the precipitations in the form of storms that could damage the integrity of the vineyard.
From the agricultural point of view, it has been a natural barrier for pests, creating a special microclimate that makes the farm can be cultivated in a natural and ecological way, without any chemical or added treatments.
The main differentiation of the territory comprising the DO Almansa, compared to that of Levante is the difference in altitude, going from 400 meters above sea level in the town of Fuente La Higuera, 850 meters in Almansa.
Until very recently, many people considered the traditional varieties of the wine appellation (D.O.) of Almansa to be the “Cinderella” of the wine world. The best example of this, is the Garnacha Tintorera variety which we at Venta La Vega – Territorio Ecológico so enthuse about. For years this juicy, dark fleshy grape variety was thought to be only fit for adding colour and not much else. Yet, we think the Tintorera can lead to wines of marked taste and which, if they are well combined with the Monastrell grape, can give us an accurate and exquisite interpretation of the land of Almansa.
We always say that a good wine is born in the field, and it is also the reason why we work already from the field with the same affection and detail with which we do it in the winery.
Our harvest is made at the optimum time of maturation of the different grape varieties of our vineyards.
We use different methods of vintage, vintage at night, traditional vintage of strain in low, by mechanized and traditional systems (by hand), etc., according to the type of wine that we want to obtain. All this, with the aim that the grapes enter the cellar in perfect conditions and at moderate temperatures, to avoid their oxidation.
With 850 hectares (and 250 ha. vineyards) we are one of the biggest ecological territory in Europe.
In addition to grapes in trellis, we have on the estate 30 hectares of Garnacha tintorera 30 years old and 18 hectares of monastrell with 40 years, both worked in glass, to be able to obtain wines with elegance and personality.
To paraphrase Raúl Pérez, oenologist who personally is leading our new project Venta La Vega - Territorio Ecológico: oenologist with whom we are working on our new project…
“Our wines, are wines that we have performed praising the essence of our grape“
