In the heart of the island of Mallorca, a few minutes from the town of Porreres, among fields and vineyards, you’ll find Can Feliu, an extensive farm dedicated to viticulture, with a renowned production of organic wines and olive oil, and also a cosy hotel with a special charm.
During the 19th century wine was the most important crop in Mallorca, with approximately 80% of the arable area dedicated to the production of grapes for wine-making. Can Feliu was already producing wines in its cellar in 1793 using grapes fom he vineyards of the Feliu family around town. At the Son Dagueta estate the past was revisited in 1998 as Carlos Feliu decided to replant the vineyards after many decades of inactivity due to the infamous phylloxera plague. Thanks to the special biodynamic care of the crops, the technological renovation of the traditional processes and the everlasting complicity of the island’s Mediterranean climate, the wines of Can Feliu represent the best of the Wines of the “Terra de Mallorca” D.O.. The Son Dagueta estate has 13 hectares of vineyards that are organically handled. Our option in favor of sustainability and biodiversity was endorsed with the European biodynamic certification DEMETER in 2011.
Our grapes are harvested by hand and transported (in crates of approx. 15 kg weight) immediately to the winery, where it is stored in our walk-in cold-storage chamber for a few hours to avoid spontaneous fermentation. Grapes are then processed and left to ferment in stainless steel tanks. The winery Can Feliu initially opened with a production capacity of 9.000 liters of wine, and currently produces about 50.000 liters of wine per year. It has air conditioned its ageing cellars, where barrels and bottles are stored with humidity and temperature controls.
The combination of different soils and microclimate in our estate, along with care and maximum respect for the nature, allow us to achieve real excellence in the different varieties of grape, the start of any good wine. Can Feliu wines include whites and rosés as well as young reds and vintage wines from the following grape varieties:
Red grapes: Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Callet.
White grapes: Chardonnay, Giró Ros, Prensal blanc, Sauvignon blanc and Viognier.
Since the start of wine production in 2004, Can Feliu has only produced wines with the following quality certificates:

Biodynamic wines: DEMETER European certifícate since 2011
The uniqueness of Can Feliu’s winery project is that it is the only winery in Majorca that wine from grapes grown organically and biodynamically, following the protocols of the European DEMETER certification. This process allows you to reuse the waste produced in the different phases of the wine making and ensure prevention of various hazards associated with the presence of chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides.
In addition it enables the development of a differentiated product, with an added high value, that answers both to the demands of the consumer for environmental sustainability criteria, as well as to the need to preserve and expand the variety of cultivated plants in this area of the island, recovering natural techniques that farmers have used for hundreds of years to improve soils and protect crops, respecting also the wild animal and plant species that live around the crops.
