Our spring salts originate from the Munzur-mountains in Anatolia/Turkey. The mountain chain is a continuation of the Taurus hills towards the east and thus forms a border between Tunceli and Erzincan. The highest peak is the Akbaba with a height of 3,482m. The mountains mainly consist of limestone, serpentinit and neogene sedimental rocks.
A part of the Munzur mountains is in the area of the 42,000ha “Munzur-Vadisi”-national park, founded in 1971. It is one of the most species rich national parks in Turkey and possesses more than 1,500 plant species. There are multiple sinter terraces and natural thermal baths. This region contains high potential for geothermal energy.
This region was named after the shepherd “Munzur Baba”, who according to legend was pouring buttermilk into a spring. Consequently the Munzur stream began to flow richly.
Salines in the Munzur mountains originate from thousands of years lasting leaching off processes. In a valley basin the underground water course accumulates to a brine. The salts are pumped from a depth of 7-8m to the surface.
The extraction of salt is handcrafted traditionally. As soon as the brine evaporates in the summer sun in shallow pools, the remaining salt crystals will be pulled together with traditional wooden plungers. The newly emerged crytalls are permanently refilled with fresh brine during the evaporation process.
This type of extracting spring salt is subject to continuous supervision and does not contain any additives. The annual production quantity amounts 150-200t.
The salts from the Munzur-mountains are one of the purest salts on earth. You may of course test it, we are happy to send you a sample. Convince yourself of our high quality!
