Aromatherapy is the term that was first coined by the French Chemist, Gattefosse, in 1928. He accidentally discovered that Lavender Oil can be used to heal severe burn on his hand and prevent subsequent scarring. Since the discovery, he became fascinated with various therapeutic properties of essential oils.
Each essential oil has a specific interaction with the body's chemistry in direct and indirect manners. It can affect certain organs or more holistically throughout the body. For the example, when the oils are used externally in the form of a massage therapy, essential oils are absorbed through the skin and transported to the rest of the body.
