The nutmeg tree provides us with two spices: the hard brown seed with its warm, spicy sweet flavour and the dried orange-red mace, the aril of the seed.
It takes five to seven years until a nutmeg tree is ready for the first harvest. And some more years till the tree reaches its full potential.
Aside from the two spices, essential oils and butter are the main products from this tree, which reaches between 5 and 15 m and origins from the Banda Islands in the Moluccas.
