Dandelion is a very precious plant which is homology of medicine and food. It usually refers to Taraxacum mongolicum Hand. -Mazz. or Taraxacum borealisinense Kitam. or other dry whole grass from the same category. Dandelion, originated from Europe, is wildly distributed around the world with more than 2,000 varieties. In China, there are around 100 varieties and 1 variant.

According to the record of “Compendium of Materia Medica”, the green leaves of dandelion is edible, and it has the function of healing infectious diseases. In recent year, research studies suggested that the function of relieving pain and inflammation of dandelion is wildly adopted. It is honored as “broad-spectrum antibiotic, and natural antibiotics” in Chinese medicine herbs.

The Health Care Function of Dandelion:

(1) Anti-inflammatory

Broad-spectrum antibiotic: Dandelion can inhibit gram-positive bacterium, gram-negative bacterium, epiphyte, spirochete, and other variety of pathogenic microorganisms, without drug resistance. It also has the function of inhibiting multiple inflammatory.

(2) Anti-radical

The flavonoid and polysaccharide contain in dandelion are all belong to natural anti-radical substances. They have the function of clearing free radical, preventing the oxidization of unsaturated fatty acid and enhancing the production of cytokine.

(3) Immunity Regulation

Dandelion has the function of improving cellular immunity and non-specific immunity.

(4) Anti-tumour

The dandelion polysaccharide has the function of apoptosis and inhibiting the proliferation of tumour cells.

(5) Protect the Stomach

Dandelion has the function of inhibiting helicobacter pylori, gastric acid secretion, and healing of gastric ulcer and pain reliving.

(6) Detoxification

Dandelion can protect the liver by releasing the toxic effects of endotoxin. Also, dandelion has positive effect on healing chronic gallbladder spasm and lithiasis.
