Dandelion is a very precious plant and is homology of medicine and food. It usually refers to Taraxacum mongolicum Hand. -Mazz. or Taraxacum borealisinense Kitam. or dry entire plants mixed from same species. Dandelion, originated from Europe, is wildly distributed around the world with around 2,000 species. In China, there are around 100 species and 1 variety.

According to the record of “Compendium of Materia Medica”, the seedling of dandelion is edible, and treatment of infectious diseases is preferred with eating raw dandelion. In recent years, researches indicated that the new function of relieving pain and inflammation of dandelion is wildly adopted. It is known as "broad-spectrum antibiotics", "natural antibiotics" of traditional Chinese medicine.

(1) Antibacterial, anti-inflammatory

Broad-spectrum antibiotic: Dandelion can inhibit G+ bacterium, G- bacterium, epiphyte, spirochete, and other variety of pathogenic microorganisms, without drug resistance. It also has the function of inhibiting multiple inflammatory.

(2) Antioxidant effects

The flavonoid and polysaccharide contents in dandelion are all belong to natural antioxidant substances. They have the functions of clearing radicals, preventing the oxidization of unsaturated fatty acid and beneficial to cytokine production and activation of complement.
