Scheufelen would like to introduce a new innovative, most ecological material - grass paper, produced from up to 50% of grass fiber in a composition. Grass paper available in two brands: graspapier - printing paper and greenliner - paper for corrugated board production suitable for fluting and liner layers. Scheufelen presents at BIOTECH the multiple packaging applications for fruit and vegetables produced from greenliner.The distinction of greenliner from other fresh fiber packaging materials is based on its grass fiber content used. Grass fiber is an innovative raw material manufactured to pellet form by purely mechanical conversion of sundried grass (hay), requires absolutely no chemical treatment, as well as a significantly lower energy and water consumption. The water consumption for grass fiber is 0 liters compare to approx. 30.000 liters per ton produced pulp fiber. Energy consumption falls from up to 6000kW/h per ton pulp fiber to about 150kW/h per ton grass fiber. Grass is available for harvesting several times a year. This means that it regrows within months, different from tree cultivation, which in Europe takes at least 20 years. This assures that 50% of CO2 emissions from greenliner packaging materials are also balanced within months. The grass fiber supply is from an area of 50 km around the factory, again reducing CO2 emission. Greenliner is a 100 % recyclable and biodegradable material. Additional advantages stem from reduced soil occupation and acidity. Greenliner is a more sustainable and highly ecological substitute also for a recycled pulp based packaging materials, as it guarantees no risks for mineral oil migration.
Grass paper greenliner is available in two modifications:
Greenliner for the fluting layers of a corrugated board, available in following substances: 80, 90, 105 and 125 gsm
Greenliner for the liner layers of a corrugated board, surface sized, available in following substances: 85, 95, 110, 130, 150 and 205 gsm.
