DE CAÑA - PANELA is a natural whole cane sugar from the highlands of the Colombian Andes. Our sugar cane is cultivated on certified organic farms and harvested by hand. The farmers do not use any chemical additives for the production and leave the sugar unrefined. Hence, the valuable vitamins and minerals remain in the golden sugar.
In Colombia Panela is a traditional product and plays as the second largest source of income, after coffee growing, an important role for the development of the rural areas. 300.000 families make their living from growing sugar cane. The social and productive power of growing sugar cane and the production of Panela symbolize in an exemplary manner the peacebuilding process in Colombia
The founder Anna Elisabeth Meisel is daughter of Colombian parents and has a great passion for the country and its traditions. DE CAÑA – Panela was founded 2016 with the goal to promote Panela as a natural substitute for industrial sugar and spread the significance of Panela for Colombia in the world. The taste of Panela is the taste of Colombia.
