The phytotherapeutic properties of an exceptional product
A little bit of history:
The Virgin Oil of pumpkin seeds is obtained by the cold pressing of the homonymous plant seeds (Cucurbita pepo L.).
Grinding and pressing the seeds takes place respecting the traditional production process: the seeds, once washed, are dried until they burst open and finally are squeezed.
The precious oil produced has an intense dark green colour and pleasant flavour; it is kept virgin in order to preserve the many nutritional and herbal curative nutrients.
From a nutritional point of view, the presence of unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic acid and linoleic acid gives Pumpkin oil the regulating properties for the cholesterol levels in the blood and protects the cardiac function; the high amount of vitamin E provides protection against oxidative stress.
Pumpkin seeds, in fact, are very rich in betasteroli, structurally similar substances to androgens and natural estrogens: numerous studies have shown that these substances are useful to improve post-menopausal symptoms (caused by a lack of estrogen) and the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy.
The presence of zinc, in addition, makes the pumpkin oil a recommended food for the entire male population, thanks to its protective action against prostatic diseases.
For these reasons Pumpkin oil is particularly used in the field of herbal medicine and in the preparation of natural products.
It is recommended to be consumed raw, such as a salad dressing or to enrich the dishes of the Mediterranean tradition. Delicious also with the Vanilla Ice-cream !
