Japanese researchers recently discovered that pomegranates are rich in phytoestrogens, and particularly in oestrone. Oestrone is a mildly effective oestrogene similar to the female sex hormone. The pomegranate also contains large amounts of vitamin A, C, potassium and antioxidants.
The pomegranate stimulates the body, having beneficial effects in cases of chronic fatigue, listlessness, infections and inflammation. The pomegranate contains high levels of antioxidants and secondary plant substances such as polyphenols (flavonoids, tannins).
Origin and Production:
The pomegranate has been grown for over 5,000 years and is thus one of the oldest plants known to mankind. The name pomegranate derives from Latin pomum (apple) and granatus (seeded).
The pomegranate has a history that is shrouded in legends: one claims it was the fruit Eva used to seduce Adam. Paris precipitated the Trojan War by handing Aphrodite a pomegranate. Ever since then the pomegranate has been a symbol of life and fertility.
Our organic pomegranates are grown by small farmer groups in the scenic environment of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The pomegranates are harvested by hand when fully ripe and on the very same day cleaned by hand and carefully dried at our processing plant Silk Road Organik Foods. It takes 1 kg of fresh organic pomegranates to produce 100g of organic dried pomegranates, a ratio of 1:10!
Our dried pomegranates are peeled by hand from selected fresh fruit and then gently dried. Pep up your breakfast and salads, or use the pomegranates as a baking ingredient and delight your guests with this exquisite delicacy all the way from the Silk Road!
