Production and processing of biocyclic olives and olive oil are subject to strict requirements set by the Biocyclic Standards. Thus, within the olive grove the producer is obliged to take special measures for the enhancement of biodiversity. Planting different kinds of trees in the same plot or extensive soil cultivation not before natural germination of taste relevant wild herbs that grow under or between the trees has taken place, are just examples of how biocyclic cultivation techniques enhance biological soil activity and self healing processes in nature. Another characteristic of biocyclic cultivation techniques is the usage of olive leaves and olive cake for preparing high quality compost, which is spread as a ripe substrate under the olive trees. By this the cycle of nutrients is closed, thus giving back to the root system those components that strongly influence the vitality of the tree.
