Everything began with the 'black bread of Westphalia': Wilhelm Mestemacher, was the founding father of our traditionally run family bakery. The baking tradition began in a Gütersloh single room 130 years ago and now has grown into one of the largest bread producers in Westphalia. The original recipe for Pumpernickel has remained virtually unchanged throughout this period.
Under the management of Albert and Fritz Detmers, Mestemacher have shown unprecedented growth in the past 20 years. With guidance from scientific advisor and joint owner Dr. Ulrike Detmers the company turnover has increased to over 92,8 million euro (£62,6 million). Mestemacher rank today as one of the most successful medium size enterprises within the German food manufacturing industry.
Our bread has made a name for itself well beyond the German borders. On the international front Mestemacher have profited from the trend towards traditionally made products. Not only does our classic Pumpernickel enjoy popularity abroad but also our full range of products including the Westphalian wholemeal breads and musili. As such we are currently exporting to more than 87 countries worldwide.
To maintain our high levels of customer satisfaction we are further investing in the future. In addition to the health aspect we are aware of the consumers desire for quality and their increased sophistication. Look out for our future innovative products which we are currently developing.
130 years of Mestemacher from humble beginnings in as a small hand crafted bakers shop in the heart of Westphalia to a large state of the art manufacturing facility. Our attention to detail however remains exactly the same.
