Melinda Consortium is one of the most important producers of Italian apples. With its 440 thousand tons of apples produced in the Trentino area each year in the Non and Sole valley, equal to about 20% of the average national production, it is now not only a reality of national importance, but also one of the main European realities of the fruit and vegetable market.
From harvesting to distribution, Melinda complies with the strictest national and international standards of certification, without neglecting a fundamental aspect, which is part of the main pillars of the Consortium: sustainability. A tangible translation of this value is the creation of an extraordinary project, the Hypogeal Warehouse, the first and only structure in the world for the refrigerator-preservation of fruit in underground caves under controlled atmosphere conditions, which allows to reduce electricity consumption, halve the use of water and CO2 emissions, protecting and preserving the territory.
Melinda is a brand that in Italy boasts 99% brand awareness and represents 4,000 family that are part of 16 cooperatives, which cultivate globally about 6,700 hectares of apple orchards in Non and Sole Valley, in Trentino. The Consortium offers job opportunities to over 1,300 employees, as well as generating for many other local businesses an important economic spin-off, 70% of which remains invested in the Region. As far as the BIO product is concerned, Melinda organic apples are produced according to the guidelines of the Production Regulations for organic farming, strictly followed by all the organic fruit growers of the Consortium. The product is guaranteed at all stages of the production process that are controlled and certified by competent authorities. The selection and packaging are also carried out in a dedicated centre, in compliance with the same very strict process standards guaranteed for the other Melinda apples. Today Melinda Bio is available in the Golden, Fuji, Gala and Renetta varieties. The brand is investing more and more in the growth of this product category and the proof of this is the birth of new "organic districts" in different areas of Non and Sole Valley. Melinda expects to reach in 4 years an area cultivated with this method equal to 500 hectares.
