Aperitivos de Añavieja, S.A. is a Spanish Company manufacturer of high quality snacks. Our plant is located in the village of Añavieja, fifty kilometres far away from Soria.
Soria is one of the less habited towns in Europe and it is situated at an average height of 1000 metres.
Añamaza river, a tributary of Ebro river, rises in this region from several natural springs. Being headwaters of Añamaza river let us use this extraordinary water and guarantees clean and unpolluted water for the irrigation of our potatoes.
The height of the farming lands where we grow our raw materials, gives us the advantage of avoiding certain plagues such us the potato plant louse or others, as this type of plagues cannot bear these heights or the changing weather, whose temperatures may vary in summer from thirty-five degrees centigrade during the day, to two degrees centigrade at night. In winter, the temperature may vary from twelve degrees centigrade during the day, to seven degrees centigrade below zero.
Our potatoes stay in the ground for six months. Their slow growth and their progressive maturing show off their best at the frying moment and it can be noticed when you taste them.
In our farms, there are eighty hectares of organic production. In ten of these hectares we grow the earlier types in a warmer climate and the rest hectares are for the main crop potatoes.
As we have at our disposal our own agriculture production or organic potato crop, we do not need to acquire potato crop from other farmers or agriculture companies. This self-sufficiency let us control the whole process: the sowing, the harvesting, the preparation, the storage, the shipment, etc.
In 1848 Añavieja´s lagoon was drained and turned into a farming area. For thousands of years, it had been a vast flooded plain which had as its substratum a dark, peat-composed land, very rich in nutrients and permanently flooded. With the drainage of the lagoon, hundreds of hectares of a black, fertile and of maximum quality land appeared.
We grow our potatoes in the setting of this old pool and we fertilize them with organic composting. We have our own composting plant where we produce the organic manure which is later spread upon the fields.
We use the watering by spray which imitates the rain to irrigate our potatoes. Our potatoes are collected by hand as in this way they receive the sunlight, and they lose the damp of the land and we prevent them from being hit.
Finally, they are taken to the warehouses and an excellent raw material is guaranteed for all the year. The final part of the storage takes part in warehouses which are close to our plant, where our potatoes are stored in optimal humidity and temperature conditions.
For all this, we are conscious of the fact that our company is based on the innovation and the purpose of making things better day by day and that we keep on growing as far as we are able to focus our projects without losing the key words in our philosophy:
