Dos Costas is a cooperative that counts with 207 family farming producers located in Boa Esperança, South of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Its history started with the creation of the Associação Comunitária dos Costas in 1989, an association who built a solid and supportive trajectory in defense of our community interests. In 2006, due to the advancement of larger coffee farms that had been leading to rural exodus and diminishing the capacity of small coffee growers in competing on the market, the association started working toward public policies to strengthen family farming and aiming its objectives on the necessity of small coffee producers. Its mission is to “Work for a sustainable development of the locations where they operate, guaranteeing the improvement of our coffee produced for the national and international fair market while valuing our associate producers and promoting better living conditions for them and their families.”
In 2008, the organization increased on a worldwide level after the obtainment of FLO/Fairtrade Certification. New bases of coffee production had to be established to meet the environmental and social criteria established for the Fair Trade. In 2009, 69 producers decided to create a cooperative that, maintaining its mission, could meet the coffee commercialization requirements nationally and internationally.
In 2018 we acquired the international organic certification. By acquiring Dos Costas coffee, you will be consuming a quality coffee. Also, you will collaborate to maintain a production that respects and preserves the environment and the social development, foundations of sustainable agricultural development.
