Since the 70's we suffer from the constant harassment of gue rrilla groups, paramilitaries and the armed forces of the state, fed by drug traffcking, first with marijuana and then with the poison that they take from our sacred plant of hayu (coca). Coffee came with peasant colonization and has facilitated economic exchange with the world. Our coffee is produced under the shadow of the trees, organically in its management of fertilization and pest control, accompanied by spiritual work by the producing families and mamos, which makes our grain special and unique in its form of production. This led to the traditional authorities taking the decision to form an organization that knew the marketing procedures and that was responsible for collecting and selling directly at national and international level; This is how in 2014 the Association of Producers of the Arhuaco People of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta -Asoarhuaco- was created. With the experience acquired in the last three years, we made alliances with wholesale buyers of parchment coffee and made international tours to access the specialized markets, becoming direct exporters and thus access customers who value the particularities of our way of producing and achieving income, just to improve the price to producing families and have resources to recover our sacred sites.
