YA COFFEE is a coffee passion story of Mrs. Sara Yirga and Mr. Dagmawi Iyasu, a husband and wife team with background in management, biochemistry, coffee economics, and design. YA COFFEE started as an artisan coffee roasting company and evolved into a business solution for sustainable development and biodiversity conservation. This evolution came about while learning and observing the coffee market dynamics in Ethiopia and the world over.

YA COFFEE went through growth and change since inception in 2012. The market gaps domestically and the cost benefit of operating in an origin country required an innovative business model that brings the farm and cup level operations closer. Thus, YA COFFEE is committed to bringing the smallholder farmer and value driven consumer closer. YA COFFEE will increase market efficiency and deliver unique coffee products to significantly improve the livelihood of all partners involved including employees, smallholder farmers, and rural migrant youth through job creation, market linkage, and income diversification..

YA COFFEE is now poised for another phase of development that includes restructuring into a limited liability company (LLC) and integration of both green coffee processing centers (CPCs) and retailing operations into the business model. The CPCs are designed to be a demonstration farm and training centers and the retailing outlets are primarily designed as stations for integrating coffee and tourism sectors and pioneer coffee tourism as a viable sector for sustainable development. Accordingly, YA COFFEE is now engaged in implementing a project with an estimated cost of $1.7 million and make a complete farm to cup operation through a partnership with 600 smallholder farmers and their cooperatives across Ethiopia and retail partners in Ethiopia and the world over.
