Herbaria – A long tradition of organic treats
Herbaria was founded in Philippsburg, Germany, in 1919 as a herbal tea and remedy company and was taken over in the 1980s by Otto Greither, the current owner. It was one of the first suppliers in the organic food sector and is an active founding member of Bundesverband Naturkost Naturwaren e. V., Germany’s first association of organic processors, wholesalers and retailers. Herbaria stands for passion, expertise and top-quality teas, herbs, spices and coffee from certified organic farms. Over 200 Herbaria products are available in more than 4000 organic and health food shops across Germany. Herbaria is a small business. It currently employs 32 people and is managed by owner Otto Greither and Erwin Winkler.
The company’s motto is “Organic is small, is beautiful”. It is important to raise awareness among consumers that the organic sector is an individual market, not a mass market. Herbaria cultivates relationships with small-scale farmers in Germany, other European countries and the rest of the world. For Herbaria, living in harmony with nature and humankind and enabling future generations to do the same is the fundamental idea behind sustainability. It includes values like global environmental protection, a fair society and local sourcing.
When we launched our Organic Gourmet range of herbs and spices in February 2006, we became one of only a handful of providers of gourmet products in the organic sector combining gourmet foods with high culinary requirements. The range of herbs and spices has now been expanded with the addition of a fish seasoning and a Mediterranean barbecue seasoning. Fish ahoy! goes perfectly with all freshwater and sea fish, while Maestro di BBQ turns barbecued fish, cheese and vegetables into tempting Mediterranean treats and is the ideal gift for any BBQ expert. And when you’re out and about, Herbaria’s mini-mill is a must: whether in the local beer garden, at a picnic or at the office – with the aromatic salt blends, which come in practical mini-mills, you’ll be ideally equipped for a perfect culinary experience wherever you are. And for anyone who can’t get enough of our snacking salts, they are now available in full-size mills as well! The range of mini-mills has also been extended with the addition of three more snack-time seasonings – a new wild mushroom snacking salt, a chilli & cocoa snacking salt, and a sweet kaffee klatsch mini-mill, which is great for adding to muesli and desserts or as a topping on cappuccino and other drinks.
Besides herbs and spices, Herbaria has an extensive range of fine tea blends. The Well Being range includes a wide choice of teas for various conditions. At the BioFach 2018 trade fair we will be presenting our four new teas for adults and children in playful packaging: Banino, Giraffina, King Kalypto and Otto Carotto. Make sure you try them!
Our small, select coffee range meets the same high quality standards. The beans are roasted by hand by Dinzler, in nearby Irschenberg, following all the rules of artisan production. The results of this local partnership are a particularly full-bodied coffee with practically no acidity and an espresso with a unique aroma. Try for yourself: pay us a visit in the Bioland area in Hall 7 by the Bioland café bar!
In 2016, Herbaria brought out a brand new product range:
crunchy seasoning – five types of breadcrumbs in a range of different flavours for enhancing dishes, sprinkling over food, using as a topping or in place of a conventional breadcrumb coating to add plenty of flavour.
We look forward to welcoming you to our exhibition stand!
