The IFOAM Family of Standards is the only instrument worldwide that enables multilateral equivalence and is therefore a milestone in the development of organic agriculture. The 'Family of Standards' includes all standards that are recognized by IFOAM. The standards are recognized based on their equivalence with the 'Common Objectives and Requirements of Organic Standards' (COROS). As part of the reform of the 'Organic Guarantee System', IFOAM launched three new logos: 1) The 'Family of Standards' logo for standards that are recogized by the global organic movement as 'organic'; 2) The 'Standards Leaders' logo that recognizes particularly advanced standards and 3) The 'Global Organic Mark' logo that can be used on products by operators who have entered into a contractual agreement with IFOAM.
Founded in 1972, we are the only international umbrella organization for the organic world, uniting diverse range of stakeholders contributing to the organic vision.
Day by day, we work towards true sustainability in agriculture, from the field, through the value chain to the consumer. From building awareness among the public and advocating for sustainable policy, to building capacity and facilitating the transition of farmers to organic agriculture, everything we do aims to strengthen the organic movement and lead it forwards.
We have Affiliates in more than 120 countries. In order to unify, lead and assist this a broad-based constituency in a fair, inclusive and participatory manner, we organize a General Assembly every three years.
At every General Assembly, our members elect the World Board, who shape the direction of our work and appoint Affiliates to committees, working groups and task forces on topics like the development of standards or the facilitation of Organic Agriculture in developing countries.
