SONNENTOR - where joy grows!
Since 1988, SONNENTOR has been delighting fans with herbs and spices from 100 percent organic farming. It all began with an idea by Johannes Gutmann and a passion shared by him and three organic farmers from the Waldviertel region.. They carefully hand-packed high-quality herbal teas to best preserve large leaves and delicate flowers. Since then, the colourful assortment has grown to over 900 organic products, ranging from fragrant teas and spices to aromatic coffee and essential oils.
Regional partnerships worldwide
Many diligent hands were needed to turn the idea into a success story. Those hands gradually grew a one-man-band to a company with more than 500 employees. The three original farming families have also been joined by 900 organic farmers who make the SONNENTOR sun shine worldwide. Since not all herbs thrive in the harsh Waldviertel climate, we cultivate personal partnerships with growers all over the world. Whether in Tanzania, Albania, Germany or Austria, our understanding of mutual recognition, appreciation and circular economy philosophy are transnational.
We grow sustainably
The result of our work can be experienced in our SONNENTOR shops in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic as well as in many organic shops worldwide. We export around 66 percent of our products to over 52 countries. Our focus is on the common good, manual work, innovative products, and renewable energies and raw materials. Meanwhile, 96 percent of our packaging can be composted or recycled. Pioneering spirit, growth and sustainability go hand in hand.

Although we are constantly evolving, some things are good just as they are, namely, the location of our company in the heart of the Waldviertel. It has become a popular tourist destination with more than 40,000 people taking a look behind our laughing sun door each year. Guided tours lead you through our premises where you can learn about the production of our teas and spices. The organic restaurant Leibspeis', sustainable accommodation and an organic permaculture farm complete this “experience for the senses”.
