Aloe has been used for 4,000 years in folk medicine and is appreciated for its remarkable therapeutic properties. The ancient Egyptians considered it to be the plant of immortality. We know of over 350 species, Arborescens is considered to be the variety with the highest concentration of active principles.Our plants are grown with love, sun and water, respecting their natural rhythms of growth. Arborescence is renowned for its numerous qualities: It improves the immune system: the acemannan it contains is an anti-inflammatory and anti-viral principle, and it stimulates the production of white blood cells. It contains salicylic acid: (the active principle of aspirin and a protector of the heart). It has anti-inflammatory soothing properties: a great ally for the skin! The skin protecting and moisturizing properties afford relief from sunburn and from burns caused by fire and oil, as well as from redness and irritation of all kinds (mosquitoes, jelly fish, and nettle stings). The gel of the leaves spread on the skin is an excellent aftershave, and it is great as a night mask. It is useful in the treatment of eczema, wounds and blisters. Coagulant: it repairs body tissue and membranes (excellent to heal scars).
Draining and excellent purifying properties: it favours the elimination of toxins, protects the intestinal walls, and defends the liver, avoiding the accumulation of fat. It regulates the metabolism: it aids in the treatment of many complications deriving from diabetes as it has a remarkable hypoglycaemic effect. It also helps to control the levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose, and aids the normalization of arterial blood pressure. An excellent anti-oxidant: the anthraquinone and phenolic molecules have an anti-oxidising and anti-ageing effect. Aids digestion and purifies the body: aloe juice, as well as being a very effective gastric protector in the more invasive forms of drug treatment is soothing for the whole of the digestive system, and it favours the elimination of heavy metals and the detoxifying of the liver and body as a whole. Anti-tumour properties :Father Romano Zago an Italo-Brasilian Franciscan monk, and an expert and promoter of a renowned recipe that comes from the folk culture of the favelas in Brazil, expressly describes Arborescens as the only variety suitable for the preparation of this mixture:350g. (2/3) of Aloe Arborescens leaves, 500 g. of honey, not multiflora if possible, of an excellent quality and unprocessed (as raw as possible), 50g of distilled grappa or whisky. The leaves must be cleaned with a damp cloth, avoiding direct contact with water . Cut off the thorns on the sides of the leaves. Cut up the leaves and blend them with the honey and distilled spirit.
N.B. The mixture should be made in the dark if possible. As the gel is light sensitive it is advisable to carry out the procedure by candlelight, and to protect the blended mixture as much as possible from the exposure to light once it has been made. The jar which is to contain the product must be darkened (tin foil is excellent). Take the mixture 3 times a day, before breakfast, lunch, and dinner, in the quantity of 2 spoons per dose. It can and should have a laxative effect, if it is too strong, reduce the dose.
Nutritional values: Aloe is very rich in vitamins and mineral salts: vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, potassium, germanium, phosphorus, manganese, copper, selenium and zinc...! In particular vitamin B12 and important amino-acids make it very helpful in vegan/vegetarian diets. The gel, which is obtained from the leaves that have been appropriately peeled, must be rinsed under running water in order to lower the content of aloin, which gives it the typical very bitter taste. If you want to eliminate the aloin completely, thus losing its properties, immerse the leaves in a container filled with water for some minutes, and the gel will completely loose the bitter taste which is caused by the aloin, make sure your change the water 2 or 3 times. It can be used in juiced fruit and vegetables or employed to produce excellent juice by blending it with some squeezed lemon, which will improve its preservation. The mixture thus obtained is very pure, and must therefore be diluted with plenty of water when used.
