Organic marigold CO2-to extract contains all the CO2-soluble, lipophilic ingredients of Calendula officinalis. The red-brown extract with a characteristic hay-like smell has a high proportion of pentacyclic triterpene alcohols with 4-taraxen structure and triterpendiol monoesters, especially faradiol esters. Furthermore, the extract contains sterols and is color-reduced with a carotenoid content <0.1%. The extract is produced by supercritical fluid extraction with natural carbon dioxide, without any solvent residues, inorganic salts, heavy metals nor reproducible microorganisms. The product is manufactured from the named raw material and 100 % natural. It contains no additives and no other technical adjuncts, it is not blended and not formulated.
It should be pointed out that calendula extracts, against widespread opinion, do not contain any sesquiterpene lactones which may cause allergies.
Application in cosmetics:
Faradiol esters have a significant anti-inflammatory effect . Marigold flower CO2-extracts are recommended for treatment of hurts, bruises, inflammations and damaged skin, for wound healing, for dry sensitive skin, in face creams, sun lotions, lipsticks and hair shampoos.
Recommended dosage: 0,1 - 0,3 %.
Calendula extracts stimulate granulation and thus enhance formation of cell tissue. They are used to cure decubitus, burns, eczema, bee stings, swelling and inflammation of e.g. veins, varicose veins and hemorrhoids.
The product has also a relatively high concentration of phytosterols which stimulate the collagen synthesis and thus help to protect the skin against harmful environmental stress. A recent human study confirmed the photoprotective effect of phytosterols.
