Citrus limon or “lemon tree” is a small tree (up to 6m tall) that belongs to the Rutaceae family. The tree forms an open cup with a profusion of branches. Leaves of 5-10 cm are elliptic, green, finished in tip and edges finely wavy or jagged. The branches presents short, thick spines. Its flowers, commonly called blossoms (just like the orange), have thick white petals tinged with pink or purple on the outside, and arise from reddish buds isolated or forming pairs. The light or golden yellow fruit is oblong or oval (7-12 cm long). More or less thick and dotted gland peel, depending on species. This tree is originary from Asia but now it is widely cultivated throughout the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
