Following a successful spring and summer calendar in 2022, BIOFACH WORLD was back on the road again for a thrilling autumn trade fair season. The one-off BIOFACH Summer Edition 2022 in Nuremberg was the last event before the summer recess before the new season started again from 1–3 September 2022 at the India Expo Mart (IEML)in Greater Noida, India. BIOFACH INDIA, which opened its doors alongside the NATURAL EXPO INDIA, was enthusiastically received by the organic community. On a display area measuring 7,000 sqm in total, just under 200 exhibitors showcased their solutions to around 4,000 trade fair visitors.

In conjunction with the Natural Products Expo East, BIOFACH AMERICA 2022 made its second appearance at the new location. Some 1,300 exhibitors presented organic products, trends and innovations in the Pennsylvania Convention Centre’s exhibition halls in Philadelphia, USA.

BIOFACH SAUDI ARABIA enjoyed a strong debut from 7–9 November 2022, when it offered 85 exhibitors and 4,500 visitors a framework for networking, learning, discovery and dialogue.

In Nuremberg, BIOFACH 2023 is now in the starting blocks as the start-of-year event for the BIOFACH World family from 14–17 February. Five other events are already firmly marked in the 2023 calendars of the global organic community. Interested exhibitors also have good grounds to be happy, because this year there will be no less than three German pavilions subsidised by the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture. This offers a good opportunity for German companies to position themselves overseas under the “made in Germany” brand and participate in the pavilion at discounted rates.

 

BIOFACH INDIA

The 14th round of BIOFACH INDIA, which took part alongside the NATURAL EXPO INDIA and the premiere of MILLETS INDIA from 1–3 September 2022 at the India Expo Mart (IEML), Greater Noida, Delhi NCR, once again brought together established companies and startups from the organic and natural food and millet segments. “The triple trade fair was a resounding success! As well as the diverse range of products and a supporting programme offering a wealth of presentations, there were plenty of lively discussions between roughly 200 exhibitors and around 4,000 trade visitors on topics like best practice examples and trending issues,” explains Kavita Sharma, Portfolio Director, NürnbergMesse India Pvt Ltd. “These discussions revealed the preoccupations of the Indian market, like millet production, for example. India has declared 2023 to be the ‘International Year of Millets’. Other topics explored included the question of how local organic farming can be strengthened,” Sharma continues. “It was also especially interesting to experience how vegan food, which is increasingly coming under the spotlight at many BIOFACH World events, is gaining in importance and being implemented in India.

BIOFACH AMERICA

In 2022, BIOFACH AMERICA took place for the second time at the new venue in Philadelphia in the context of a growing market. According to the Nutrition Business Journal, despite the recession, the organic and natural food sector has already achieved revenues in the region of $300 billion in 2023. These represent extremely good prospects and a solid foundation for the organic sector following the downturn in 2020. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more consumers are opting for natural and sustainable products, sales of which increased by 7.7% in 2022. This was also reflected in the trade fair figures.

BIOFACH AMERICA took place within the framework of the Natural Products Expo East, organized by New Hope Network, and the Harvest Festival. Together, the twin event welcomed around 1,300 exhibitors and just under 18,500 participants. The top issues discussed included plant-based nutrition, sustainable and socially compatible procurement, and “business beyond profit”.

BIOFACH SAUDI ARABIA

From 7–9 November 2022, BIOFACH SAUDI ARABIA celebrated a successful premiere as part of the Saudi Halal Expo organized by 1st Arabia Tradeshows & Conferences. As a new member of the BIOFACH World family, it brought together representatives of the organic sector at its own BIOFACH event at the Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center. The outcomes were impressive: The joint event recorded 85 exhibitors, 4,500 visitors, 23 workshops with 1,000 participants and 400 matchmaking business meetings. Nathalie Lukas, Manager of International Events at NürnbergMesse, who is responsible for BIOFACH SAUDI ARABIA, is delighted by the results of this inaugural event: “The mood at the venue was fantastic and exhibitors and visitors were highly satisfied. There were lively exchanges at the exhibition stands, presentations, discussion panels, and workshops. The topics discussed included challenges in the region like the procurement of organic fertilizers or issues relating to water resources, as well as other topics of global importance.

Fabian Dreher from Kiwa BCS had this to say: “To summarise, the BIOFACH in Riyadh was a resounding success for Kiwa BCS. The region around Saudi Arabia is a very important market for us, and we have already been active there for over a decade. We offer the OSKSA standard and many other certifications. The long trip was worthwhile because the response at the event was positive across the board!”

BIOFACH Nuremberg

The first event in the calendar of the organic community in 2023 will be BIOFACH in Nuremberg. From 14–17 February, the world's leading fair for organic food will gather international representatives from the entire supply chain in the exhibition halls and online on its digital platform. It will then once again be time to discover and experience with all the senses the huge product range of the participating exhibitors. The event is expecting around 2,700 exhibitors from 90 countries, 200 of them at VIVANESS, the international trade fair for natural and organic personal care. With more than 100 different sessions, the accompanying BIOFACH Congress also has an exciting programme in store. Its key theme in 2023 will be. “Organic. Food Sovereignty. True Prices.” Sound knowledge and professional expertise will also be much in evidence, for example in the session on the organic market in the USA.

BIOFACH World will also have its own stand in Hall 3A.

BIOFACH AMERICA LATINA

After a two-year, pandemic-induced break, BIOFACH AMERICA LATINA was finally able to open its doors again as part of the BIO BRAZIL FAIR and Naturaltech from 8–11 June 2022. The event brought together 36,000 representatives of the organic sector from 24 countries at the Anhembi Exhibition Centre in São Paulo. And preparations for the next round are already in full swing. The growing market is creating the ideal conditions, as the focus of consumers on health and sustainability is boosting the organic production chain. According to Organis (Brazilian Association for the Promotion of Organics), this segment earned R$ 6.5 billion in the country in 2021 alone, equivalent to an increase of 12% compared with the previous year.

After being postponed several times due to the pandemic last year, a new date has now been found for BIOFACH CHINA, which will take place from
19–21 September 2023 parallel to the NATURAL EXPO CHINA at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. The sector is ready for its reunion in September and looking forward to finally being able to discover trends and innovations, share ideas and make contacts again.
