BIOFACH World – Quarterly News Update Vol. I 2021
The organic year got off to a good start with BIOFACH in Nuremberg, which brought the international organic and natural personal care products community together in a digital space in February. BIOFACH, the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Organic Food, was held in conjunction with VIVANESS, the International Trade Fair for Natural and Organic Personal Care, in purely digital form as the BIOFACH/VIVANESS 2021 eSPECIAL. BIOFACH JAPAN followed shortly after in March, and was structured as a hybrid event. Observing stringent hygiene conditions, more than 25,000 trade visitors met there to discuss the latest developments in the food sector. BIOFACH CHINA is also lined up to start, and will bring the organic sector together in Shanghai in May 2021.
BIOFACH, Nuremberg
The organic foodstuffs and natural and organic personal care products community came together for their annual sector gathering on 17-19 February 2021. This year’s event was entirely digital. With 775 sessions during the three-day event, divided between a Congress, exhibitor presentations and round tables involving 1,442 exhibitors from around the world, the BIOFACH/VIVANESS 2021 eSPECIAL provided a wealth of highlights for a total of 13,800 registered participants from
136 countries. More than 400,000 chat messages were sent and over 10,000 video meetings held as the participants interacted at a highly professional level. This year’s BIOFACH and VIVANESS Congress again proved highly popular.
Various round-table sessions on the BIOFACH World events offered insights into the markets in the different countries. The round table on the organic market in Saudi Arabia and BIOFACH SAUDI ARABIA, the newest member of BIOFACH World, proved particularly popular. Participants received a wealth of information on current market activity in the form of facts and figures, and also on the state of research and support for environmentally friendly agriculture in Saudi Arabia.

BIOFACH JAPAN
BIOFACH JAPAN took the form of a hybrid event from 9 to 12 March 2021 as part of FOODEX JAPAN. FOODEX is the leading trade fair for the food and beverage industry in Japan and Asia. At the fair, the BIOFACH JAPAN Pavilion offers the ideal opportunity to get to know Japanese traders, and buyers and representatives of the catering industry throughout Asia. Participants at the BIOFACH JAPAN Pavilion 2021 included LIMBUA, Long Life, Deanocciola and IFOAM – Organics International.
A sophisticated hygiene plan combined with stringent security measures made it possible to hold the trade fair in physical form in Chiba, near Tokyo. During the four days of the event, more than 25,000 visitors took the opportunity to learn about the latest developments and trends in the foodstuffs sector from the more than 1,300 exhibitors representing about 50 countries. Using the online tool myspace, visitors were also able to learn about the exhibitors and products retrospectively and contact each other. This tool will remain available to participants until autumn 2021.
Save the date! The 17th BIOFACH JAPAN will take place in March 2022 as the BIOFACH JAPAN pavilion at FOODEX JAPAN in Chiba, near Tokyo.

BIOFACH CHINA
BIOFACH CHINA is lined up to start and will be held in spring 2021 in parallel with NATURAL EXPO CHINA in Shanghai. More than 200 exhibitors from eight countries will display their organic food products and natural and organic personal care products for the organic community. The trade fair pairing will be divided into four subject areas: Natural Products Area (natural and near-natural products still undergoing organic certification, media, service firms, technology and equipment, etc.); Brand Products Area (traditional organic agricultural products manufactured in China); International Products Area (imported organic products) and the Maternal & Infant Products Area (domestic and international organic products for all needs of mothers, babies and children). In 2021 there will once again be a range of forums and special exhibition areas on specific themes. Participants in BIOFACH CHINA can look forward to the China Organic Retail Forum, the China Organic Textile Forum, the Organic Life Promotion Area, and the China Organic Vegan Forum, among others.
In addition to the exhibitors and products, the trade fair also offers an extensive congress programme. It will include the 15th International Organic Product Market and Development Conference, for example, at which more than 200 experts will discuss the latest themes and developments in the organic sector.

The first edition of BIOFACH SAUDI ARABIA will be held in the Riyadh International Exhibition & Conference Center from 29 November to 1 December 2021, in parallel with the Saudi Halal Expo. These trade fairs bring together the organic community from the Middle East and North Africa, in addition to other international exhibitors and visitors from the organic sector.
