Review in figures and pictures
"As patron of BIOFACH we were delighted by the growing number of exhibitors and visitors at BIOFACH 2019. This growth reflects the increases in the number of organic farmers, organically farmed area and market turnover. Behind this growth is the increasing influence of the organic movement in general. At the trade fair in 2019 we looked in particular at the effects of organic food on health. The inseparable link between health and soil, plants, animals, people and the planet was explored at the congress from various angles. We are looking forward to continuing these conversations at BIOFACH 2020 and to consolidating the contribution of organic farming to the objectives of sustainable development."
"Our organic farmers, processors and retailers, but also research institutes and federal and regional ministries, presented the outstanding achievements in sustainability in the German organic sector to BIOFACH trade visitors from all around the world. In this its 30th year, BIOFACH presented itself yet again as a diverse industry gathering place and innovative source of inspiration for the international ecological food industry. With its own congress, the theme of which in 2019 was ‘The organic system – healthy in a holistic approach’, BIOFACH continued to raise its profile as an exciting knowledge platform."
Family company Mandorella, run by mother Isabella Latrofa with her sons Gabriele and Leonardo, travelled to BIOFACH 2019 from Puglia. They presented their innovative vegetarian and vegan specialities made from regional Italian almonds, including the original almond butter. Their products attracted a lot of interest for the longstanding exhibitors who is participating in BIOFACH for the 20th time. "A lot of importers from other EU countries, but also from the USA, Canada and Dubai, noticed our products and expressed their interest," says a delighted Mandorella team. "BIOFACH is always a great experience and a place to gain inspiration and exchange ideas."
When after 30 years, none other than the founder of the company himself is standing at the exhibition booth, this is quite a statement. Nils Romer, owner of Danish organic drinks producer Naturfrisk, is happy to confirm: "BIOFACH is our most important trade fair for export business. But for us it is much more, namely a think tank and a platform for trends, developments and news from the organic sector. It inspires me to be here again and again," says the organic pioneer from Denmark.
A BIOFACH exhibitor right from the start, Rapunzel welcomed visitors from all over the world in 2019 at a central location in Hall 8. The organic suppliers for the firm’s own fair trade range "Hand-in-Hand" took advantage of this great opportunity to see the "Rapunzel Family". "We are absolutely satisfied and inspired to be here on BIOFACH’s 30th birthday," says Rapunzel Export Manager Roland Hackenberg. "Our stand is a small meeting hub within the large international heart of the organic movement." Thies Curschmann, Sales Manager for the Rapunzel brand, had this to add: "This is the right place for us to boost the appeal of the specialist retail segment and the response has been very positive. Values are in demand again and we are delighted to be communicating our values here."
Many young companies taking part in the Pavilion for Young Innovative Companies even have brand names that are creative. Together with his wife, Thilo von Trott has created different flavours of porridge. They chose the name Turtle because the natural sugars in the cereals provide sustained energy that is released slowly. Thilo von Trott is very enthusiastic about his first appearance at BIOFACH: "The pavilion is a drawcard and therefore the perfect stand for us newcomers. We made a lot of very promising contacts and at the same time had a lot of fun talking to other start-ups. BIOFACH is a place of inspiration."
Amadeus Zschunke from Swiss organic seed company Sativa Rheinau has been taking part in BIOFACH for many years. He is very appreciative of the "Organic right from the start" meeting point in the foyer of entrance Mitte: "We are very thankful for this attractive location. Our objectives were very well received this year; we had a lot of interest and good conversations, especially in respect of our marketing under the brand name Bioverita. In the coming years we would like to continue to be part of a shared stand model in the halls as a platform for various cultivation initiatives."
Experience the world of VEGAN has become very well established at its location in the international Hall 4A. Silke Hellemann, Event Manager at Proveg International, who has helped organise the BIOFACH stand since 2015, is delighted by the positive response on the part of visitors: "For us it is always a wonderful event. The context of appearing with a lot of other international organic companies is very valuable to us. We appreciate the opportunity to come into direct personal contact with visitors that are interested in plant-based nutrition. Especially helpful in this respect are the cooking show and snap talks, which were consistently well attended."
