BIOFACH 2026: Strong conversations, clear impetus, shared perspectives

BIOFACH 2026 confirmed its role as the world's leading platform: around 2,200 exhibitors and almost 32,000 trade visitors ensured intensive discussions, clear orientation, and strong impetus for the future of the organic sector. The congress, trends, and startups demonstrated how resilient and dynamic the sector is.

Four days of trade fair, well-filled halls, and forward-looking discussions: BIOFACH has once again confirmed its role as the world's leading platform for organic food. The focus was on the quality of intergenerational encounters and the question of how food systems can become resilient and sustainable – in line with the theme “Growing Tomorrow: Young Voices, Bold Visions!” Around 2,200 exhibitors from almost 90 countries and just under 32,000 trade visitors took part in BIOFACH 2026. Half of them traveled from abroad. Despite restrictions on public transport and air travel, the trade fair reached its relevant target groups and facilitated intensive discussions between manufacturers, retailers, politicians, and stakeholders.

Dialogue that has an impact

BIOFACH has impressively demonstrated how strong and energetic the organic sector is. This spirit was palpable in all the halls: the organic community once again used the trade fair as its central platform—a place where it can engage in dialogue, gain orientation, and define concrete steps toward sustainable nutrition. The strength of the sector is reflected not only in the current market balance, but also in the fact that this momentum is directly translated into an excellent rebooking rate and numerous requests for larger stands in 2027. Over two-thirds of the space has already been booked," says Dominik Dietz, Director BIOFACH. Stakeholders engaged in conversation, new collaborations were initiated, and existing partnerships were deepened. Tina Andres, Chairwoman of the Board of BÖLW, adds: “It's great to see how organic is growing – the political messages for continued strong development were set here at BIOFACH. It is the indispensable platform for classification, encounter, innovation, and politics.”

Congress focus: Broad topics, clear orientation

The motto “Growing Tomorrow: Young Voices, Bold Visions!” set the tone for the content of the BIOFACH Congress and emphasized the importance of young perspectives, new ideas, and intergenerational dialogue for the further development of the organic sector. At the same time, the congress reflected the current issues and challenges facing the value chain across its entire thematic spectrum – from market development and consumer perspectives to production and supply chains to corporate strategies, politics, science, and sustainability. In forums, panels, and formats such as the SustainableFutureLab, discussions focused on how organic farming can continue to grow, what obstacles the industry currently faces, and what solutions can be derived from this.

The most popular panels, “EU Regulatory Update” and “News from Organic Law: What is changing and needs to change in the Organic Regulation,” attracted a total of 415 participants. The congress comprised a total of 169 slots.

Highlights in the supporting program

The official opening was very well received and was marked by Luisa Neubauer's forward-looking keynote speech, which provided key impetus on responsibility, the will to transform, and a global perspective. She ended her keynote speech with the words, “We must not forget that these days, sustainable organic farming translates above all into a lived ‘yes,’ a ‘yes’ to the world.”
The supporting program offered a wide range of points of contact at the trade fair.

Experience the world of PLANETARY HEALTH showed how nutrition can be specifically designed along planetary boundaries – from theory and best practices to sensory experiences.
The 480 products on display at the new products stand, as well as the product and industry trends highlighted by the BIOFACH trend jury, provided a comprehensive overview of current developments and trends in the sector.

On the INNOVATION STAGE, 31 startups, creative companies, and innovators presented their latest developments in pitch formats, panel discussions, and market impulses. Here, it became clear what will shape the organic market in the coming years.
In the final round of the BIOFACH Start-up Pitches, the three finalists presented their visions to investors, retailers, and the media, impressively demonstrating how much innovative power the next generation has to offer.
